Our vision of the one-way dual language program at William P. Nixon Elementary is for all students to become bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural by the integration of language and content instruction. William P. Nixon promotes fluency in both Spanish and English languages while honoring the culture of all students.
At Nixon, we believe in the importance of fostering students’ cognitive and linguistic abilities to help build biliteracy identities that will lead to higher lifetime academic achievement.
To accomplish this vision, teachers are using research-based best practices to develop biliteracy curriculum maps and biliteracy unit frameworks to ensure that students are receiving well balanced standards-based instruction. We have developed an action plan that will begin with preschool through second grade in the 2018-2019 school year. The full implementation of the one-way dual language program will be sequentially adopted as follows:
2022-2023 (PreK, K, 1st, 2nd and 3rd)
